Townsend Water Department Flushes Mains Tuesday; Residents May See Discolored Water

The town's Water Department is flushing water mains across Townsend on Tuesday, June 30, and residents can expect temporary changes to water color, pressure, and taste while the work proceeds.

The Water Department posted notice on June 29 that water main flushing would take place June 30. Residents may see discolored water — typically a harmless rust tint — and should run cold water at a tap until it clears before using it for drinking, cooking, or laundry. The town did not specify which streets or neighborhoods are in scope for Tuesday's work.

Two standing reminders remain in effect this week. Town Hall is closed on Fridays through the end of August, so any business that would normally be done at the end of the week should be planned for Monday through Thursday. Separately, residents who participate in the curbside trash and recycling program have until July 10 to renew their registration for the 2026–2027 program year; registration is open now.

Residents also have until July 13 to watch for the next Community Electric Aggregation sweep — the town posted notice of an upcoming aggregation sweep on that date.

The Townsend Public Library will be closed Friday, July 3, Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5 for the Independence Day holiday weekend.
