Townsend Schedules Water Main Flushing for June 30

The town's Water Department will flush a water main Tuesday, June 30, a routine maintenance step that could temporarily affect water clarity for nearby residents.

TOWN HALL

The Water Department posted notice Monday that water main flushing is scheduled for June 30. Residents near the affected lines may experience discolored water during and shortly after the work; running cold water until it clears is standard practice. The town advises checking the full notice at townsendma.gov for any street-specific details.

Two housekeeping reminders remain active from earlier this week. Town Hall is closed on Fridays through the end of August, so residents with business at 272 Main Street should plan weekday visits Monday through Thursday. Separately, the deadline to renew the curbside trash and recycling program for 2026–2027 is July 10; registration is open online at townsendma.gov.

The town's community electric aggregation program will hold its next sweep on July 13, 2026, for eligible Townsend accounts — residents who have not already opted out should review their status before that date.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Townsend Public Library will be closed Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5 for Independence Day weekend. The library's Summer Reading program remains active in the lead-up to the holiday break; patrons can find registration and event details at townsendlibrary.org. The Meeting Hall Art Gallery continues to be available for viewing during regular library hours before the closure.
